It is the second time that my brother, left me his Acer Aspire One ZG5 because the screen was not working, and he complained because his computer was dead.

Acer Aspire One Screen not working - Reboot BIOS
Like last time I started to search (or better google) the most common keyword I could think typing stuff like:
- “Acer Aspire One ZG5 screen not working”
- “Acer Aspire One ZG5 screen black”
- “Acer Aspire One ZG5 BIOS PROBLEM”
- “Acer Aspire One ZG5 don’t start”
A i believe if you are reading this post you’ve done the same…
Like me you’ll probably start to read 1000 of blogs with many information but most of the time are wrong or incomplete.
I’m writing this post to all those who have the same (common) problem, I hope this post will be much useful for you.
How fix your Acer Aspire One ZG5
First of all you’ll need:
- a working windows computer (apologies for all the mac people, but you need a window friend!)
- a usb key
- the lastest version of version zg5ia32.fd (click here Download)
Once you have all those you have to:
from http://macles.blogspot.com/2008/08/acer-aspire-one-bios-recovery.html
The AA1 has a built-in BIOS recovery routine, making it possible to flash the BIOS even if the system doesn’t boot anymore. It’s only meant for emergencies and may void your warranty, so use at your own risk.
Follow every step carefully!
First format an USB stick with FAT.
Download the latest BIOS, and put both FLASHIT.EXE and the BIOS file in the root directory of the stick. Rename the BIOS file to ZG5IA32.FD, that’s important. Do not remove the USB stick.
Turn the AA1 off, make sure both battery and AC adapter are connected. Press Fn+Esc, keep it pressed and press the power button to turn the AA1 on. Release Fn+Esc after a few seconds, the power button will be blinking. Press the power button once. The AA1 will now initiate the BIOS flash, do not interrupt it under any circumstances. After a while the power button will stop blinking, and the AA1 will reboot shortly after. Wait patiently.
The BIOS has been flashed and all settings reset to default.
If for some reason you made a mistake during the procedure and it doesn’t reboot by itself wait 5 minutes before turning it off, just to be safe that it isn’t still flashing the BIOS.
Also a must see Video:
Also I found this great video on youtube about how fix your Acer Aspire One ZG5.
It is quite funny because it features a very buy voice in the background the video is the best:

Hi there
I had a HD crash replaced the hard drive and now the screen is blank. I have tried to do the ESC and FN key together while powering up and the power light does not blink. I have tried both fat and fat32. Any recommendations?
Hi Mike..
I’m sorry I’ve done some research.. but nothing..
did you try to post a ticket to acer? http://support.acer.com/
hey . i have acer note book aspire zg5 and this is the second time i have the black screen and i tryed all the steps up but still no reboot and the problem is the lamp of hard not give any sign or activity i dont know what i gonne do can any onegive ,me ah
Whaw I cannot belive my eyes!!!! I was desperately sure that the A1 is dead!!! I thank’s a lot for ressurection
Is there somebody to explain the phenomenon? In my case the last activity was last Friday, when I was in the train and connected my mobile (V 840 Huawei) via usb (a like cdrom is detected with installation of some utility to connect to the internet and some mobile backup and transfer utility). I made one communication via mobile, uninstalled a dialup utility and switch off my A1. Monday morning was impossible to boot XP, even access the BIOS.A black screen,no accessed HD, only the switch green led light and battery charging possible. The common for those situation is black screen and no existence of A1 BIOS. I was thinking that I destroyed CPU by some overload of the usb port…or RAM memory module on the board broken, or the additional memory (was 1G) in the slot.
So thanks again…

Sir,
Thank you. Sitting in a hooch in Baghdad and my only link with home is my Acer – with the black screen of death. I followed the instructions and it is now back up and running.
You are a God!
Thank you.
My pleasure colonel.
Good luck!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You just saved me time and money…if hospitals have surgeons as instruments to save lives, you are as such in thus case…Acer wanted me to bring the item to their service center with so expensive charge. The process of fixing this bios thing is so easy and it was like less than a minute. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
No worries, my pleasure!
Is there a way to restore my acer aspire one ZG5 netbook to factory settings. I do not have a restore disk. I heard acer put a hidden restore feature on it and can be accessed by pressing a combination of keys. Do you know how to do this?
thanx so much wrkd great
Hi, perhaps you could provide enlightment to me.
)
The symptom: my netbook startup until windows startup screen show up, then it turned off.
I had that symptom 2-3 times before, and solved by doing the bios reflash. Everytime with newer BIOS version up to 3310. Several months ago I experienced the same. Reflash the BIOS didn’t solve the problem. 2 days after that, when I was about to bring it to the service center, I checked it, and it was already back to normal. Today I experience it again (it went off after starting up). I tried BIOS reflash, which gave me no result.
Question: (1) What is exactly happen to my netbook? Is it really a BIOS problem or other? (2) Any idea, what should I do to fix the problem?
Thank you in advance for your attention (Sorry, the message is a bit too long

Just wanted to echo the sentiments of many, and thank you for this. A lot of others have said nearly the smae thing, but none seemed to have a healthy grasp of the english language, despite it being their primary one at that. Your post was concise and to the point. It made my fear of screwing it up subside almost entirely. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
You are very welcome..
Leo

Hello,
I’m after a bit of advice please, I have an acer ao150 zg5 and after doing a RAM upgrade with a known good RAM stick the aspire screen turns white at power on, but then stays dark.It does boot to the os as witnessed via an external monitor.I removed the RAM and the laptop acted the same. I am going to try the bios update, but wondered if you had any ideas as to whether it is something else.
Thanks in advance,
Pat, is it possible that your mach reverted to the default “power management” scheme and it’s just going into sleep mode?
Try first moving the mouse; then if that doesn’t bring it back, try hitting “Enter” and wait a moment to see if it comes back. If not, then try hitting the (green lit) “Pwr” button just for a second, wait a mo, and see if that “brings it back”.
Hello.
Sorry for the strange writing but I am Hungarian and my pronunciation not perfect.for me similar my trouble than the dark display mentioned above.Linux was on him for me I put it on it it xp-t and the display was dark.the mistake of the bios you are something else lessz?nem trouble answer me into private one no problem if English.thanks the answer.

Hi Mate,
As the tutorials says if this solutions doesn’t work after 3-4 times the problem could be something else and you have to contact the Acer support..
Let me know..
LEO
Hey Leo,
I, too, read and tried the whole nine. But of all my attempts everything happens the way it’s suppose to EXCEPT my USB indicator light was never led. Power indicator still flashes indefinitely but i do not think my USB was ever read. Any suggestions???
THanks!
Mmmmhhhh.. did you try with another USB? there are other files in the USB? or why you don’t try to format the USB and do the process again?
Let me know
Leo
Will this work on aa1 kav 10
Thank you so much! I’ve had my Acer for 2 years, so it is 1 year out of warranty. Given I only paid AUD$500, I was going to get rid of it, but you have saved it!
Thanks again,
Dan
